IS MEMBERSHIP FREE?
Your Starter Membership is free for lifetime. As a Starter member you can enroll in our two flagship courses called Family Movie Maker and Family Storybook Publishing, download free templates that will help you organize your family movie or storybook projects, and post in our Project Community social group.
When you upgrade to a paid membership like Creator or Family Historian you gain access to advanced courses, topic-specific social groups, and exclusive workshops and resources. You can upgrade or downgrade your membership whenever you like.
DO FAMILY MOVIE STORYBOOKS PUBLISH MY BOOK?
No, we deliver coaching, resources, support and design services to provide you with a print-ready PDF that will meet the exacting requirements of a reputable online book printing company, a third party.
Once your storybook PDF (Portable Document Format) is ready for printing, we’ll send you the link to the printing company along with instructions (and support if needed) to upload your family storybook, get it printed and shipped directly to you and/or your loved ones.
Book Design Hub is built to break down a large project like book publishing into manageable small pieces called chapters, support you with obtaining or creating the content for each chapter, do the beautiful design for you based on your input, and then moving on to the next chapter until your whole book is ready for printing.
DO YOU MAKE MY MOVIE FOR ME OR DO I HAVE TO DO IT MYSELF?
Our courses and services can support you in giving your loved ones a family history movie that you’ve either created yourself or that we’ve produced for you.
Our course Family Movie Making will walk you through all the steps to gather your content, create your video footage, and then make the design decisions that will define the look and feel of your movie. We provide movie design services by section so you can go at your own pace, building your movie story by story or character by character. Your produced movie sections will be stored online and are streamable and downloadable so you can share and archive your movie, either in individual sections or in full running time.
I DON’T KNOW HOW TO GET ALL THE CONTENT TOGETHER FOR MY FAMILY STORYBOOK OR MOVIE?
Yes, if you’ve haven’t started yet or are midway through gathering, sorting, and curating your content for a family history movie or storybook, our system is designed to help you get methodical about the process, try out some best practices to make it easier and effective, and surround you with other people doing the same thing as you so you don’t feel so alone.
I’M REALLY NOT A WRITER. CAN I GET SOME HELP WITH THAT?
Yes, we provide writing services that will give you the written narrative and captions for your family storybook or the narration script and on-screen titles text for your family movie.
We can work from existing transcripts, research notes, and conversations, or combine writing with an interview package. Currently, we only provide these writing services in English but tell us what language you need and we’ll see if we can find a way to help you.
What currency can I pay with?
All prices are in USD. Most credit cards accepted at our online Checkout.
Do I have to pay sales tax?
Currently only Canadian customers will have 5% GST added on.
HOW DO I INTERVIEW MY REMAINING ELDER RELATIVES TO GATHER FAMILY GENEALOGICAL DATA AND STORIES? THEY’RE GETTING OLD AND I DON’T WANT TO MISS MY OPPORTUNITY.
Yes, you’re wise to get those elders interviewed as soon as you can. We have several courses that teach about the concepts and practices for getting useful recordings of interviews with those who know the stories and facts.
If you don’t want to do the interviews yourself we provide online interviewing services that will create your video, audio, and transcribed text files.
I’VE GOT SOME REALLY EXCITING IDEAS FOR MY FAMILY STORYBOOK AND/OR MOVIE. CAN I WORK DIRECTLY WITH YOUR DESIGNER TO PROVIDE INPUT?
Yes, we can’t wait to hear about your ideas. Our basic design services include a Design Choices form that you’ll be able to detail what you’re imagining like font choices, colours, style of book like flowery, modern look, clean non-ornate etc.
Plus, a bonus offering is that we run weekly online Zoom sessions where our designers will be working live on client projects and listening to ideas. If you need additional designer time we’ve got add-on services you can purchase to have 1:1 sessions with the designer.
We assure you that our designers have many years of experience designing books, so rest assured, you are in good hands. Our designers are professionally trained. Their layout skills will wow you. They also make sure your images will print well and won’t be blurred or low rez. If the image you supply is not high-rez enough they’ll get back to you and assist you to get one to us.
DO I NEED TO BE A MEMBER TO JOIN FAMILY MOVIE STORYBOOKS’ SOCIAL GROUPS?
If you’re not a member you can read the posts of our members in the Project Community social group. Once you sign up for a free Starter membership you’ll be able to post in Project Community.
When you upgrade to a Creator membership you’ll also gain access to topic-specific social groups like Family Storybook Publishing, Family Movie Making, Family Historians, and new social groups.
CAN I ATTEND EVENTS?
Yes, without a membership you can attend our regular online workshop Honouring Ancestors: How To Tell Their Story and Storybook Reveal Parties and Family Movie Screening Parties.
Once you become a member you’ll get invited to member-only online workshops specifically about storybook publishing, movie making, interviewing, gathering content, acquiring and developing images, organizing projects, collaborating with family and friends, and more.
